Baboquivari board unanimously declares last week of October "Filipino Heritage Week"

The governing board of the Baboquivari Unified School District approved a resolution Nov. 12 declaring the last week of October each year as Filipino Heritage Week.
Superintendent Ruben Diaz introduced the resolution and read its findings, noting a formal request submitted to the board on Oct. 14 and citing the U.S. Congress designation of October as Filipino American History Month. Board members praised Filipino staff for their contributions and service to students and families and supported the resolution as an opportunity for district-wide recognition and educational activities.
A motion to approve the resolution was seconded by Kathleen Vance and recorded as passed. Board members asked that the district commemorate the week through educational activities, community engagement and recognition events across district campuses.
The resolution passed without controversy; board members and honored guests posed for a commemorative photo following the vote.
