The Baboquivari Unified School District announced Nov. 12 that the district and several campuses have earned improved letter grades, with the district receiving an overall letter B.
Superintendent Ruben Diaz credited educators, students and families for the progress and said the district will continue targeted work to raise additional campuses. He noted that the high school and intermediate campus each achieved a B, the accelerated campus maintained a C, and the district as a whole is now rated a B under the state grading system.
Principals and board members highlighted increases in attendance and student engagement, credit-recovery successes at the accelerated campus and extracurricular initiatives such as a student enterprise at the high school. Diaz also recognized operations for completing a large number of work orders and thanked staff who secured external funding and food-distribution partnerships.
Board members discussed celebration plans and community outreach; the board requested signage and events to acknowledge the achievement across campuses and to involve students in the recognition. Administrators said further public celebrations will be scheduled and that a more detailed account of instructional progress and metrics will be shared in future reports.
The announcement marks the first time the district reported a B rating as an LEA, according to discussion during the meeting, and board members described the recognition as a milestone while emphasizing continued work to improve outcomes.
