SUDEC weighs regional partnership and Mosaic/RISE family center options amid uneven town spending

"We feel that we don't want to pay a consultant. We already know what we're doing," the member said, urging use of free technical assistance from Mosaic/RISE or drafting an intermunicipal agreement to formalize cooperation.
Members noted a funding imbalance across towns: Dennis and Yarmouth have expended some local funds while Brewster and others have not yet spent their allocations. That disparity shaped the group’s discussion about whether to pursue a wide regional model with five or six towns or to align more closely with Yarmouth and Barnstable.
Separately, a Mosaic/RISE representative told the group the organization had secured funding for a family community center intended to support people impacted by substance use disorder, including parenting groups, trainings and support groups, but a planned South Yarmouth site fell through. The representative said the group is actively seeking centrally located space in the Mid‑Cape to host weekly drop‑in groups and provider supports and asked members to circulate a packet of services and facility leads.
Next steps recorded in the meeting included reaching out to Carrie in Harwich for coordination, inviting Yarmouth representatives to a future meeting, and posting Mosaic/RISE outreach materials on the SUDEC web page and the county newsletter.
The board closed the discussion with plans to revisit collaboration at the next meeting and to continue looking for a suitable Mosaic/RISE facility.
