Meridian Waste asks county to renew trash contract, cites local investment

Representatives from Meridian Waste told the Covington County Commission on Feb. 24 that the firm is in the sixth year of the county contract and that renewal clauses allow for additional three‑year terms. The company said that following Meridian's acquisition of local operations it has invested in equipment, opened a local shop in Knob and stabilized service.
"We employ local folks," the Meridian representative said, noting the county has contact information for their local manager and that the company would be willing to discuss any negotiations. Commissioners thanked the company for attending and said staff would follow up if negotiations were needed ahead of contract expiration or renewal deadlines.
