Covington County Commission reappoints regional planning members, fills revolving-loan and OCAP seats

At the Feb. 10, 2026 meeting the Covington County Commission handled several board appointments affecting regional planning, business lending oversight and community services. Commissioners reappointed Gayle Robbins to the Southeast Alabama Regional Planning and Development Commission (SEARP&DC) and voted to appoint Alison Thomasson; after an unsuccessful motion for Sara Mixon to serve as alternate, the Commission reappointed Commissioner Ben Courson to the alternate seat. The motions carried by unanimous vote.
The Commission also appointed Jessie Self to the SEARP&DC Revolving Loan Administration Board (motion by Commissioner Tommy McGaha, second by Commissioner Ben Courson); that motion passed unanimously. On the Organized Community Action Program (OCAP) board vacancy created by Susan Harris’s resignation, a motion to appoint Dr. Jackie Woods failed for lack of a second; the Commission then approved a motion to appoint Kay Maddox.
Chairman Michael Smith stated the seats were filled from among several applicants who had submitted materials; each appointment was adopted by roll call as noted in the minutes. The Commission did not attach conditions or amendments to the appointments in the minutes.
