Deschutes County joins Le Pine Basin All‑Lands Partnership to coordinate wildfire resilience

The Deschutes County Board of Commissioners on June 17 approved a request for the county to join the Le Pine Basin All‑Lands Partnership, a newly convened collaborative intended to prioritize cross‑boundary wildfire mitigation in south Deschutes and northern Klamath counties.

Lauren Street, the county's community wildfire protection supervisor, described the partnership as a year‑old effort to align private, federal, state, tribal and local work across the Le Pine Basin and to prioritize where cross‑boundary fuels reduction and story‑telling of success can be most effective. Street said a map that will define the partnership's geographic scope is expected to be released on June 23 and that the partnership seeks to plug projects into a regional prioritization framework.

Board discussion: Commissioners asked whether the partnership duplicates or supplements existing federal projects. Street said the partnership is intended to complement prior and ongoing work and to reduce silos between federal and private efforts. One commissioner abstained from the vote because of a personal conflict (spouse’s consulting contract with a related organization); the remaining commissioners voted to approve the document (2026‑0442).

What happens next: County staff will participate in the partnership and said participation does not commit the county to financial contributions beyond staff engagement and coordination; the county's role is intended to be collaborative and to bring county tools and perspective to the shared effort.
