The Huntsville ISD board approved the district’s 2026–27 compensation plan and hiring schedule after a presentation by Dr. Dixon outlining pay-scale changes and new roles to support instruction and program implementation.
Dr. Dixon summarized the key elements of the proposal, including raising the starting certified teacher salary from $52,500 to $56,000, a $1,750 increase for instructional assistants, a $10-per-day raise for substitutes and paraprofessionals, and a 5% raise in certain categories the district had previously implemented. “We are one of the only school districts that has given a 5% raise,” Dixon said, highlighting retention and recruitment goals.
The plan also separates certified and noncertified salary scales in advance of state requirements, expands career pathways, and adds administrative positions (executive directors, coordinators for testing/mentorship and facilities) designed to support the Blue Bonnet curriculum rollout and district growth. Dr. Dixon said some positions and professional learning costs will be supported with grant funds earmarked for implementation.
Following trustee discussion, a motion to approve the compensation plan passed by voice vote; the meeting transcript does not include a roll-call tally.
