Votes at a glance: Waukee approves plats, site plans, ordinances and appointments

Waukee, Iowa — At its June 23 meeting the Waukee City Council approved a slate of routine and substantive items affecting development, city codes and appointments.
Key votes (all recorded as unanimous “yes” unless noted):
- Consent agenda: approved. - Appointments: David Meyer and Emily Schultz (Library Board reappointments) and Chelsea Salvo (new appointment) for three-year terms to June 30, 2029; Glattis Peterson appointed to the Board of Adjustment for an unexpired term ending Jan. 31, 2029. - Plats and site plans: Council approved Oakleaf Plat 3 (preliminary and final), a site plan for Les Schwab Tire Centers (Lewab Tire Center at 3405 Grand Prairie Parkway), a site plan for Blue Drift (health spa), and a site plan for Fireside Town Homes (75 rental townhome units). The council also approved a site plan for Waypoint Resources to relocate community services and add parking; staff and the planning commission recommended approval. - Ordinances and code updates: Council introduced and moved forward with the first reading of the updated Chapter 76 bicycle/personal transportation device ordinance (see separate story). The council also moved forward with readings related to the Division of Revenues under Code of Iowa section 403.19 (Consolidated Urban Renewal Area parcels), approved the third and final readings to update Chapter 155 (building codes) and Chapter 156 (residential rental code), and approved the second reading for rezoning of Sugar Creek Landing. - Personnel/compensation: After a closed-session evaluation under Code of Iowa 21.5(1)(i), council approved a resolution to increase the city administrator’s base salary by a 5% step and a 3% cost-of-living adjustment, bringing the annual base salary to $241,660.
Most items were presented by planning staff (Melissa and colleagues) with standard staff recommendations; no contested votes were recorded. Several council members and staff highlighted the community benefits of approved site plans, particularly the Waypoint Resources relocation which staff said will centralize food pantry, medical and rental-assistance services.
What didn’t happen: no final adoption of the bicycle/personal-transportation ordinance (it was introduced at first reading); no written correspondence was received on the South Warrior Lane public hearing.
Next steps: staff will finalize contracts, draft reimbursement agreements where required, schedule subsequent ordinance readings, and proceed with site-plan permitting and project implementation.
