Commissioner Minty says Klamath joins multi-county effort on Safer Highway 97 corridor

Commissioner Minty told the Klamath County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 17 that she had recently testified at the State Capitol in support of a Safer Highway 97 corridor initiative and met with the governor to press the county’s safety concerns.
Minty said the initiative crosses county lines and that Chair Ray of the Klamath Tribes and commissioners from Deschutes and Jefferson counties will be part of the effort. She characterized the stretch of Highway 97 in Klamath County as among the state’s most dangerous and said lawmakers she met with acknowledged the problem.
Commissioner DeGroot also noted he will travel to Washington, D.C., for the National Association of Counties (NACO) Legislative Conference, where he said he will speak on timber and Secure Rural Schools issues. The remarks were part of the commissioner reports section of the Feb. 17 meeting.
