Outgoing Superintendent Dr. Everett honored; Kurt Harvell sworn in as interim superintendent effective July 1

The Meridian School District board formally honored outgoing Superintendent Dr. Everett for his eight years as superintendent and nearly three decades in education, then administered the oath of office to incoming interim Superintendent Kurt Harvell.

Board members praised Dr. Everett’s work expanding career and technical education (CTE) pathways, founding student-advisory structures and advocating at the state level. The board presented a plaque and flowers and invited photos with student representatives and community members. Dr. Everett offered closing remarks, describing his tenure as ‘‘an utter pleasure’’ and expressing confidence in the district’s future.

Later in the meeting the board administered the oath of office to Kurt Harvell (presented in the transcript as 'Dr. Kurt Harvell'), who repeated the oath to support the U.S. Constitution and the laws of the state of Washington and to ‘‘faithfully discharge the duties of Superintendent’’ effective July 1, 2026. Following the oath, the board moved through a set of routine administrative resolutions (manual signature certification, authorization of similar signature, appointment of claims agent, authorization of warrant signature, authorization to invest funds, designation of district agent, designation of auditing officer, and authorization to sign construction project documents). Each resolution was moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote as read.

Harvell offered brief remarks of appreciation and said he looks forward to serving the district and working with staff and the community.
