The Keene City Council authorized the city manager to negotiate and execute a contract with Weston & Sampson Engineers for engineering services on the Court Street well field upgrade for an amount not to exceed $542,200.
Councillor Thomas F. Powers, presenting the Finance committee recommendation, described the work as significant and tied to drinking‑water sources. “Our well fields are our source of drinking water,” he said, emphasizing the need to address aging buildings and regulatory changes. The council voted unanimously on the authorization after noting only one proposal was submitted and that the firm had previously worked for the city.
The contract, to be funded from the water fund, will proceed through standard contract negotiation and procurement review. Councilors said the project will address aging infrastructure and ensure compliance with regulations; staff noted financial reviews indicated the price was within expected parameters.
The manager was authorized to complete negotiations and execute the agreement so engineering work can commence.
