Forks Township to issue RFP for grass‑cutting services on vacant, unmaintained properties; staff to seek liens

Following continued complaints about tall grass on private and often-vacant properties, the Forks Township Board of Supervisors on June 4 directed staff to seek outside contractors to cut unmaintained lots and pursue liens where owners do not respond.
Zoning Officer Shawn McGlynn said door-hanger notices and letters have been placed on properties to give owners 30 days to correct issues before enforcement; he noted particular difficulty with vacant parcels where an owner cannot be located. John O’Neil moved and Derek Hughes seconded a motion directing Township Manager Donna Asure to issue an RFP for grass-cutting services for properties identified by the zoning office as vacant and noncompliant. The board agreed staff will cut affected properties in the meantime and the solicitor will be asked to place liens against properties after work is performed if unpaid. The motion carried.
Board members discussed whether front yards could be cut without addressing backyards and noted case-by-case determination; the township will provide details in the RFP and rely on the zoning officer to compile the list of properties for contracting.
