Council member Clinton Palace said the town is experiencing a drop in applicants for police testing and asked colleagues for ideas on recruitment and advertising.
"I currently do not have any applicants for my July test," Palace said, adding that a recent applicant did not follow through with the testing process. Palace said he hoped candidate interest would pick up closer to July but asked other members for suggestions, noting past recruitment work tied to a retention grant produced only limited response.
The concern came during the meeting’s new-business portion, after roll call and a call for public comment. Palace said he welcomed suggestions on advertising or outreach; no specific recruitment plan was proposed on the record.
The discussion did not include any formal direction to staff and no vote was recorded on recruitment actions. The meeting then moved on to procurement items related to police vehicles and equipment.
