Murray County approves ditch bills, several petition repairs after field inspections

Travis Radke detailed six petition sites: a suspected restriction in Slayton Township (JD 10–20–25), an aging concrete intake at CD 43A in Belfast Township reported by Roger Rice, sediment and vegetation removal at a Dover Township site, and additional spots in Murray and Glenville townships where mini-excavator work addressed standing water in open ditches. At one location staff noted partially separated joints or damaged concrete pipe that might require spot repair rather than full replacement. At another site, fallen trees spanning an open ditch were removed to restore flow.
Board members asked about contractor insurance, coordination with the highway department when work is near county roads, and the typical practice of asking landowners for preferred contractors to expedite service. Staff explained petitioners typically cover engineering-review costs when specified and that minor work is sometimes completed quickly when a contractor is already in the area.
On a motion and second, the board approved the ditch bills and petition repairs as presented.
