RSU 23 board approves instructional strategist role, three hires and updated policies

The motion to adopt the job description was made by Michelle Violette and seconded by Peter Flaherty and was recorded as unanimous.
The board then voted unanimously to appoint Carolyn Hutchings as districtwide instructional strategist, Kristin Galipeau as a 0.6 LMS health and wellness teacher, and Mary Fagan as a full‑time third‑grade teacher at LMS (motion by Peter Flaherty; second by Stuart Hogan). No salary or contract details were specified in the minutes.
Board member Peter Flaherty introduced revisions to several policies to add Pre‑K provisions and said the full texts are available on the district website. The board unanimously approved the following policies (motion by Michelle Violette; second by Stuart Hogan): KEB — Public Complaints about School Personnel; BCA — Board Member Code of Ethics; BDE — School Board Standing Committees; and BDE‑R — Standing Committee Operating Procedures.
During discussion about the new Instructional Strategist role, board member David Boudreau asked whether the position was included in this year’s budget. Chair Carol Marcotte described the district’s process for creating and approving new job descriptions but did not specify whether the position is funded in the current budget.
