The City of York council on Aug. 21 approved Ordinance No. 2398, a third-reading amendment to Chapter 28 that establishes regulations and requirements for mobile vendors, including food trucks.
Councilmembers said the ordinance aims to make clear who is operating in town and to provide consistent rules for vendors. The council said it wanted to know who is in town and to make it easier to track and welcome legitimate vendors.
The ordinance passed on third reading by voice vote; councilmembers recorded affirmative votes during the reading. No substantive amendments were offered at the third reading.
Why it matters: regulated vendor activity can affect downtown vitality, public health oversight and permit revenue, and the ordinance gives the city a framework to permit and monitor mobile vendors.
Next steps: the ordinance is adopted and will take effect according to the city’s ordinance-adoption rules; staff will implement any permit or registration processes required under the new chapter.
