City administrator highlights downtown revitalization, survey results and vandalism

City Administrator Dr. Crawford told the City of York council on May 1 that the city is in its second month of a spring "spruce up" campaign featuring public- and privately led renovation projects and a new downtown revitalization tour available through the York County Visitors Bureau app.
"We had over 1,500 people respond, which was amazing. We had over 200 high school students respond," Dr. Crawford said, describing results of a recent retail survey that showed strong interest in sit-down restaurants and a range of retail types.
Dr. Crawford also encouraged residents to sign up to help with park spruce-up projects and noted summer hiring needs, saying the city planned to add about 120 part-time seasonal staff and still needs lifeguards and public-works help.
She also reported two acts of vandalism — one at Foster Park and another at a recently completed mural on the Tony Norse building — and expressed disappointment about the damage.
Dr. Crawford said completed downtown renovations are showcased on the app, which lets users view before-and-after images for individual buildings.
