The City of York council on May 1 approved a contract with Wad Enterprises LLC to demolish the building at 302 North Lincoln Avenue for a base price of $74,250, with an alternate that would reduce the total to $71,750 if the city provides traffic control.
Chair presented the low bid after the city received three submissions; James, a city staff member, told the council Wad provided references and was judged the most appropriate contractor. "When we opened bids, we received three bids. Wad was the low bid and also provided two references," James said.
James said a hazardous-materials assessment will be completed next Thursday to identify and remove materials such as asbestos and lead before demolition. "We'll be using the same contractor to do that hazardous materials assessment," he said. The council confirmed the need to properly dispose of any hazardous material before work begins.
Council members moved and seconded approval and voted unanimously to award the contract.
The decision does not schedule demolition work; the city said it will issue a notice to proceed after the hazardous-materials assessment and any necessary abatement are completed.
