RCS board highlights spring sports, honors retirees with 367 years of service

Mr. Visalli opened the meeting’s athletics presentation by saying the district’s spring athletes “represented RCS with tremendous pride, sportsmanship, dedication both on and off the field.” He reviewed team results and individual honors across baseball, softball, tennis and track and field and described a new middle-school sports fair that drew about 80 students.

Visalli noted varsity baseball finished 14–4 with a second-place Colonial Council finish and advanced to the sectional semifinals; he called out a no-hitter by Hayden Sorce Sorensen and several Colonial Council all‑conference selections. He said the varsity softball team won 13 games — more than in the previous three seasons — and that several players earned all‑league honors. Boys tennis posted an 8–8 record and earned the program’s first sectional team win in about six years. The track and field program posted numerous personal records, two school records and multiple sectional championships.

The board then recognized a slate of retirees from across the district. Superintendent Chandler (speaking for the district) told the board that, “together these retirees have given RCS 367 years of service combined,” and the meeting proceeded through individual recognitions and applause for employees including teachers, bus drivers, custodial and food service staff and administrators.

What happens next: The recognitions were ceremonial; no formal board action was required. The district said it will present certificates and a small gift to longtime board member Pete Ross and will share retiree information online for community reference.
