Cumberland County commissioners voted June 17 to provide a letter of support for South Middleton Township's application to the South Mountain Partnership Community Impact Grants program for a small trailhead pavilion on the Lee Trail.
Sarah Colandrillo, identified in the record as the director of parks and recreation for South Middleton Township, told the board the project would construct a 16-by-20-foot, ADA-accessible pavilion along Petersburg Road to provide sheltered gathering space and an accessible trailhead. She said the total project cost is $14,698, the township's grant request is $8,798 and the township will provide a $5,900 local match.
Colandrillo said the pavilion is meant to fill a gap where no covered amenities currently exist and to improve user comfort and accessibility along a county-designated recreational corridor. "This pavilion will also serve as a welcoming entry point to the trail, encouraging increased use by residents and visitors," she said.
Commissioners moved and seconded the request for a county letter of support; approval was given by voice vote with no recorded opposition. The letter of support will accompany South Middleton's grant application to the South Mountain Partnership.
The board approved the item under agenda item 14; the presentation and vote concluded without additional conditions or amendments.
