Algonac City Council on June 16 handled routine financial and operational business and heard updates from staff on recent storms, parks and utilities.
Key items the council approved:
- Property and liability insurance renewal with Nickel and Staff for $92,956 for the policy year July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027. Council cited higher property values and new assets as reasons for the increase over last year.
- Workers' compensation renewal with Arthur J. Gallagher for $16,363 for July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027.
- Fee schedule and cost-recovery rates for fiscal year 2026–2027 (effective July 1, 2026), including updates for pool, activity center and water rates per MCL 41.81.
- Special event permit for 'Algonac Summer in the Knack' at Riverfront Park on July 25 with approximately 60 vendors; the safety plan was approved by the county sheriff.
- Purchase of eight spring-loaded pedestrian crossing signs from Dornbo sign at a total cost of $2,838 to improve crosswalk visibility along the riverfront and downtown.
- Approval of accounts payable and payroll totaling approximately $237,962.82.
Staff updates and other business:
- City Manager Bryson reported an autopay/payment-processor error that briefly generated failed-payment emails while transactions later processed; affected customers who paid manually were offered refunds or credits.
- Bryson said the interim water plant supervisor returned to a plant-operator role and the city is recruiting a long-term operator with an F2 license. He also provided progress updates on gazebo painting, clock repairs and park/plaza improvements.
- Chief Dylan briefed the council on storm response: the city handled 16 storm-related incidents with assistance from DPW and the electric utility during the early-morning event.
The meeting concluded with routine board reappointments and community announcements before adjourning at about 7:15 p.m.
