The Ennis City Commission approved an interlocal agreement Aug. 20 allowing the North Central Texas Emergency Communications District (NCT 9‑1‑1) to construct and operate a 195‑foot communications tower on Lot 1 Block A of the Ennis Public Safety Facility.
Chief Evans explained that NCT 9‑1‑1 will fund construction and operation of the tower while the City of Ennis’ ongoing fiscal responsibility would be modest—roughly $800 a year—to cover insurance on the structure. The tower is intended to provide relay connectivity between county and regional assets and could support redundancy for the city’s public safety radio connections; Chief Evans noted that additional equipment (microwave antennas) would require separate investment if the city chose to add connectivity.
The proposed tower would be self‑supporting (no guy wires) and located behind the fire station adjacent to the facility generator. Commissioners said the interlocal would give the city the option to place equipment on the tower and provide redundancy for radio systems, and the motion to approve the interlocal carried on a voice vote.
