The Rush Valley Town Council voted to approve modest increases to monthly compensation for local elected and appointed officials for the 2026–27 fiscal year.
Councilors debated the ordinance after a public hearing and proposed changes that would raise council member pay by $50 (to $200 per month), increase the clerk/recorder to $200 per month, and boost fire leadership pay by $100 for the chief (to $425) and by $100 for the assistant chief (to $325). Council also agreed to create a separate emergency-management line item and add a $50 stipend for emergency-management duties to be paid from the fire department budget.
Supporters said the increases reflect additional duties and long service; one councilor expressed reluctance to take a raise during a non-election year. The clerk said she does not keep formal time records but would appreciate any increase. After discussion the council called the vote; members recorded affirmative votes and the measure passed (members noted a 2'to'1 recorded split at one point before a formal roll call).
What happens next: staff will draft necessary ordinance language and budget-line adjustments to reflect the approved increases and the departmental funding source for the emergency-management stipend.
