Rush Valley’s town council approved changes to elected and appointed officers’ compensation for fiscal year 2026–27, including modest increases for council members, the clerk/recorder and fire-department leadership.
During consideration after a public hearing, councilmembers debated appropriate increases. The fire chief and other councilmembers described added responsibilities under recent changes (including duties tied to emergency management and training), and one member urged that longstanding service warranted additional compensation. The clerk said she did not track hours but would be thankful for any increase.
The council agreed to raise council-members’ pay by $50 (to $200 per month), increase the clerk/recorder to $200 per month, raise the fire chief’s stipend by $100 and the assistant fire chief’s stipend by $100, and create a $50 monthly emergency-management line item to be paid from the fire department budget. A voice vote showed at least one objection; the council finalized the measure with a roll-call vote and recorded the motion as passed.
The ordinance changes will be reflected in the town payroll and in the department-level budgets identified at the meeting. Council directed staff to record the new line items and to allocate the emergency-management stipend from the fire-department budget as discussed.
