Inspection finds corrosion and humidity issues at Crawford water treatment plant; written report promised

Mike Olson, representing MC Schaff, reported to the City Council that an inspection of Crawford’s water treatment plant identified surface corrosion on several pumps and humidity problems in the plant vaults that would benefit from dehumidifiers and vents. Olson discussed anode condition, filters, water-quality testing and security measures and said the gallery project’s outflow is complete and the overall project is about 75% finished.
Council members asked about funding and remediation options. Olson said grant funding options would be explored and that the firm expects to deliver a written report by the next council meeting. City staff also noted that the east tank was being drained for inspection and clean out and that one of two sewer-plant sludge pumps had been removed and replaced; dissolved oxygen sensors were removed for maintenance.
Council direction consisted of awaiting the written MC Schaff report and investigating grant and budgeting options to address the plant’s corrosion and humidity issues. The minutes record that completing an emergency response plan for the water plant was a top priority and due April 15, 2025.
