Crawford council approves appointments, permits and purchases, and moves to executive session

The Crawford City Council met April 9, 2025, at the Crawford Library and took a string of routine actions, including approving the mayoral appointment of Patti Paige to the council, authorizing permits for community events, and approving vendor claims totaling $121,997.55.
Mayor Shane Norman opened the meeting and noted that a copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted for the public. The council voted to approve minutes from March 25 and two joint meetings from March 26 and April 1.
Council business that passed by unanimous or near-unanimous votes included: approving the appointment and swearing-in of Patti Paige to the council; permitting the Crawford High School girls’ 3-on-3 basketball tournament July 4–5 on Second Street (Elm to Linn) after the parade and on July 5; approving a contract with Passio Technologies for a bus transit program; and authorizing a $0.47-per-hour raise for transportation employee Cindy Drinkwalter after completion of required drug-and-alcohol monitoring.
The council approved administrative and financial items including: refunds of two remaining security deposits ($74.07 and $190.60), a cemetery deed for Todd Jeffery Storbeck, a $5,000-limit city credit card for City Clerk Teri Miller, advertising for a Golf Board vacancy, and a $1,440 purchase of bulk fertilizer for the golf course and ballfields from Heritage Seed. The council also approved continuing the city’s Choice natural gas supply with NCAP and a $2,500 Keno fund donation to the White River Wacipi board.
Approval of claims and payroll was unanimous. The claims report showed accounts payable totaling $101,494.11 and a combined meeting total of $121,997.55 that included payroll.
The council voted to enter an executive session to discuss a legal matter; the motion recorded entry at 7:35 p.m. and the minutes record the executive session as adjourned at 7:30 p.m., a chronological inconsistency in the minutes.
