Parks Commission approves permits for festivals, tournaments, tree contract and facility improvements

At its Aug. 11 meeting the Kenosha Board of Parks Commission approved a series of routine permits and contracts, moving several park uses and improvement projects forward by voice vote.
Approvals included a donation/issuance of a Washington Park Municipal Golf gift certificate to the Wisconsin Humane Society; a citizen request to place a memorial marker in honor of Arthur Lamachia; a City of Kenosha fall festival at Veterans Memorial Park (Oct. 16–20); a Hold My Beer event concept (deferred for further review — see separate article); the Battle of the Border soccer tournament at Anderson Park (Aug. 22–24); a Kenosha County courthouse centennial event at Civic Center Park (Aug. 24); a Red Arrow District scouting recruitment event at Lincoln Park Pavilion (Sept. 7); and a City of Kenosha playground party at Penske Park (Oct. 3–4).
The commission also accepted project 24‑1418 (tree planting) with a final contract amount of $77,514; staff noted homeowners pay $50 toward a street‑tree planting and the contract was approved. A representative for a local sports complex also requested permission for a third field and indicated $240,000 was available for improvements; staff reminded the group that permits are required under the city's agreement and the commission approved moving forward contingent on the standard permitting process.
All routine consent items and project acceptances were approved by voice vote. The only item held for additional information was the Hold My Beer event, which the commission deferred to a special meeting so the applicant could submit a revised written plan.
