Blackford County Schools hears progress report on auditorium construction; schedule largely on track

The Blackford County Schools board on Monday received a construction progress report covering the district’s new auditorium and related building work.
A presenter for Ironation Construction said precast panels on the south side are largely in place (about 15–16 panels) and that the auditorium wall is topped out. “Everything’s going really well,” the presenter said, adding that crews will set the remaining panels, place steel joists and decking, and complete the connector tying the addition into the existing school building.
Inside the school, the contractor reported that the district’s two old boilers have been removed and that most pumps have been replaced; one pump remained in service to preserve building cooling while crews complete the swap. The presenter said crews began installing the new pumps and that any cooling outage should be brief. Fire‑protection piping from the riser to the new auditorium is scheduled to begin within the week.
The presenter acknowledged a roughly one‑week production delay for precast panels caused by more complex-than-expected patterns, but said steel work is only about three days behind the original schedule and that the team does not expect a major impact to the overall timeline. The board was told to expect a mid‑July precast milestone and additional approvals related to that work.
Next steps identified by the contractor include completing the remaining precast installation, finishing steel and decking in the high‑bay area, completing mechanical and fire‑protection work over the summer, and restoring ceilings in time for the school year.
