Commission approves Forestwood Road rezoning, denies Petway Road commercial rezoning after public hearing

At a public hearing May 20, the Cheatham County Legislative Body approved a rezoning request for a parcel on Forestwood Road and denied a separate rezoning sought for a Petway Road parcel.
Kim Binkley, representing the estate of Douglas Eldridge, explained her request to rezone part of Map 37, Parcel 8 from Agriculture to R1. The Planning Commission had recommended approval 6–0; commissioners approved the zone change by roll call vote 12–0 and recorded it as Resolution 5.
The commission then considered a request from Cheatham County government to rezone a portion of Map 56, Parcel 31 on Petway Road from R1 to C3. During the public hearing, Judge Bill Stinnett, speaking for Danny Holder, urged the commission to honor an existing contract for the Petway Road property. Multiple residents, including Clayton Reed and Jack Stafford, spoke in opposition. After discussion, the commission voted to deny the county’s rezoning request; the motion passed 11–1 (Resolution 6). Commissioners also moved to place the potential donation of the old Two Rivers Fire Hall building on the June agenda if the contract is voided.
