Cheatham County commissioners approve contracts, property sales and direct mayor to hire jail design consultants

County Mayor Kerry McCarver presented the items; the body took roll-call votes on each. A motion to approve the mayor’s signature on the Vance Mayo Land Contract passed 10–1–1 (10 Yes, 1 No, 1 Abstain) after Mr. David Anderson moved and Mr. Walter Weakley seconded the motion. The commission approved an agreement with the Town of Ashland City for a water tank at Sycamore Square (12–0), a Letter of Intent for sale of county property to Ashland City for use as a wastewater facility (12–0), and a lease extension for Pizza Hut (GPS Hospitality Hut) at Sycamore Square (12–0). The body also approved the delinquent tax attorney contract for 2019; County Attorney Michael Bligh advised notices related to tax collections be published in general-circulation newspapers rather than sent to specific individuals (vote 12–0).
Members approved a Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) amendment of a Contract In Lieu of Performance Bond for the sanitary landfill (12–0) and a resolution partnering with the U.S. Census Bureau for the 2020 Census (12–0).
On the item added to the agenda, the commission moved (Mr. Ed Greer, seconded by Mr. Tim Williamson) to approve and direct the County Mayor to identify and select design professionals to assist with the County Jail Project; that motion passed 12–0. The mayor said he will proceed with selecting designers and consultants to advance the jail project.
The meeting record shows the mayor also provided updates on the Sycamore Square property and the sale of the Tucker Empson Building; no formal actions were recorded on those updates.
Actions and next steps recorded at the meeting are procedural: the mayor is authorized to execute the approved contracts and to begin the procurement/selection process for design professionals for the jail. The meeting adjourned at 7:33 p.m.
