The White Salmon City Council on May 20 recognized Jewish American Heritage Month with a presentation that included a brief video chronicling Jewish American history and the community contributions of Jewish residents in Washington State and the Pacific Northwest. Council emphasized education, inclusion and the role of local historical organizations in preserving history.
Mayor Marla Keethler provided brief city updates, noting that a planned repaving closure for the State Route 14 Mainline Phase IIA water replacement project did not occur because the asphalt plant could not produce material meeting WSDOT specifications and that the City is awaiting direction from WSDOT about rescheduling. The mayor recognized the Public Works team for Public Works Appreciation Week, announced a burn ban for Klickitat County District 3 beginning June 1, and said the splash pad would open the next day; she also noted swim-pass registration through the White Salmon Valley Metropolitan Park District and that July and August council meetings will be reduced to one each month.
Police Chief Mike Hepner reported that Officer Cody Melton responded to an April 14 medical emergency, performed life-saving measures with Bingen Fire Department personnel and was recognized with a Life Saving Award after the patient survived transport to hospital.
