Williston approves $787,000 contract for 11th Street pump station rehabilitation

The Williston Board of City Commissioners on Nov. 25 voted to award the contract to Swanberg Construction for $787,000 to rehabilitate the 11th Street Pump Station. Monte Meiers, director of public works and city engineer, told commissioners the low bidder met bid requirements and that the work includes restoring a fill valve now out of service and returning the 11th Street reservoir to operation.
Meiers said the contract includes milestone deadlines: the repair that brings the reservoir back online is scheduled to start in March and must be completed by July, with a $500-per-day penalty if that milestone is missed; full project completion is scheduled by November. The commission approved the award on a 4-0 vote (Commissioners Brent Bogar, Brad Bekkedahl, Howard Klug and President E. Ward Koeser voting aye; H. James Lawson absent).
The commission also approved Amendment No. 1 to the contract with the project engineer, reducing compensation from 20% to 13% for the consultant’s services, a change Meiers said lowers the engineer’s fee to $102,490. Commissioners said the amendment aligns the budget with project expectations.
The project is intended to return a key water infrastructure element to service and to complete associated rehabilitation work later in the year. The commission did not set a separate public hearing at the meeting; Meiers presented the procurement and schedule in open session.
