Two O'Fallon East students earn perfect 36 on ACT; district reports preliminary score gains

Charles Bauer and Aubrey Swogger were recognized at Monday's O'Fallon Township High School District 203 board meeting for scoring a perfect 36 on the April 15 ACT administered at O'Fallon East.

"Two students scored a perfect 36 and so our average composite is 21.24," Mr. Graham told the board during an academic-data presentation, adding that the vendor had reconfigured and reissued scores after an initial release. He said no students' scores fell after the reconfiguration.

The district emphasized the figures are preliminary. "These scores are not completely final until the process of our state where we verify the scores and they tell us which students count and which students don't count," Mr. Graham said. He added he does not expect the statewide verification to materially change the district's results.

The presentation included subject-level cut scores used to classify students as meeting or exceeding standards (for example, an English cut score of 18 was cited). Board members asked about comparability across years and about SAT-to-ACT conversion; Mr. Graham said the ACT portion and the state-set cut scores remain the same even as some calculation methods have changed.

Mr. Graham also noted postsecondary implications: SIUE offers automatic acceptance to students who score at least a 19 and have a 2.8 GPA; the district reported 395 students met that threshold and indicated SIUE as a planned destination.

The district said it will publish verified, official metrics when the state issues the report card and final counts later this summer or in October, and that it will follow up with a comparative report that includes peer districts.
