Hibbing council approves agenda, consent items and multiple project contracts
Summary
At its June 17 meeting the Hibbing City Council approved the meeting agenda, a consent package that included $4.44 million in payables and multiple permits and resolutions, authorized several procurement contracts and two closed sessions on city-owned property.
Hibbing City Council voted June 17 to approve the meeting agenda and a large consent calendar that contained accounts payable totaling $4,437,170.11 and payroll of $667,621.22.
The approved consent agenda also included resolution 26-030303 establishing an absentee ballot board for the 2026 elections; authorization to post a full-time engineer paramedic for the Hibbing Fire Department; raffle and special event permits for Mesaba Country Club and Children of Grace Education Center; a $35,201 quote for asbestos removal at the Hibbing Public Library; a timber sale service agreement; multiple event permits for the America 250 Hibbing celebration; and calendar items setting the next regular council meeting and workshop for July 1, 2026. Council approved the consent agenda by voice vote after a motion and second.
Separately, the council approved purchase contracts and quotes presented by department heads: a DSC Communications alarm system and installation for the new public safety building ($19,145) and a bi-directional amplifier and installation ($35,500). A Vermeer stump grinder from RDO Equipment for $77,890.80 was approved for the city fleet using proceeds from sale-of-assets funds.
Council also approved two formal motions to enter closed session for negotiations or discussion of specific real property parcels: parcel 140-0106-00110 (3215 14th Avenue East) and parcel 140-0270-00780 (1100 East 25th Street). Both motions were approved by voice vote. The meeting returned from closed session and adjourned.
The council took no contested recorded roll-call votes in open session on these items; all approvals were by voice vote as noted in the meeting record.
