Zoning and business rules: Council approved second reading of an ordinance establishing an RS-2 (high-density, single-family residential) zoning district; City Manager Meadors said RS-2 narrows allowed housing types to single-family and that an R2 option allowing multi-family remains a distinct alternative. Council also advanced a first reading to temporarily suspend Sunday sales prohibitions (Blue Laws) — Meadors said the city must suspend those prohibitions twice per year for a temporary waiver. Both measures received unanimous council support.
Appointments: The council unanimously reappointed Michael Stoddard (Ward 2), Steven Laird (Ward 1) and Harold Nichols (Ward 4) to second terms on the Design Review Board; Ward 6 will return a candidate for consideration at the February meeting. Mayor Randall reminded the public that board service is voluntary and thanked outgoing and continuing volunteers.
