Clinton secures grant for generator at municipal center and plans to revive downtown events

City Manager Meadors told the Clinton City Council on Feb. 2 that the city has secured a grant from South Carolina Emergency Management to purchase a transfer switch that will allow installation of a generator at the Bailey Municipal Center, ensuring critical power during inclement weather.
Meadors also announced a new city website launching Feb. 15 and described coordination with Main Street Director Jim Spry to "scale back" some Main Street activities so the program can focus on drawing more visitors downtown. Meadors said Main Street and the Clinton Economic Development Corporation both contribute funds to support Main Street work.
To boost events and communications, Meadors said the city is bringing Amelia Davenport on as a part-time employee (approximately 16–20 hours per week) to help with event planning and social media. He also said the city has asked Katherine Elrod with Seeker, who spoke at a Jan. 8 Strategic Work Plan session, to assist with public communications; city Public Information Officer Donya Langston will work alongside Elrod.
Meadors listed upcoming events already being planned, including Rhythm on the Rails on April 25, 2026, a barbecue competition and a revival of Third Thursday and Food Truck Monday events.
No city vote was required for the announcements; Meadors said use of funds for the part-time position is possible because the City and CEDC already allocate funds to Main Street.
