Clinton Council approves six-month suspension of Sunday sales (blue laws); appoints DRB member

The Clinton City Council on Feb. 2 approved a second reading to temporarily suspend the application of Sunday sales prohibitions (commonly referred to as blue laws) within the city limits.
City Manager Meadors provided a brief overview of the documentation provided to Council, and Mayor Randall noted the temporary suspension must be done twice per year (every six months). Mayor Pro Tem Cook moved to approve the second reading; Councilmember Williams seconded. The vote was unanimous among the five members present.
The council also approved routine minutes from its Jan. 5 meeting, passed proclamations recognizing February as Black History Month, American Heart Association Month and Children’s Dental Health Month, and presented resolutions honoring Mrs. Ella Murphy on her 100th birthday and L&L Office Supply for 43 years in Clinton.
Council confirmed a Design Review Board appointment for Ward 6: Councilmember Walsh nominated Chris Moore to fill the seat; Councilmember Kuykendall moved to approve the appointment, Councilmember Williams seconded, and the vote was unanimous.
