Council approves CARES Act-funded repairs to Fort Atkinson airport barn
Summary
After receiving three bids, the council approved a Midwest Roofing & Construction contract not to exceed $46,324 to replace the airport barn roof and siding using CARES Act funds previously allocated to the airport.
The council on June 16 approved a contract for Midwest Roofing & Construction to replace the roof and siding on the Fort Atkinson Municipal Airport barn at a cost not to exceed $46,324, paid from CARES Act funds previously allocated to the airport.
Director Drager described the barn’s condition, noted aging T-lock shingles over original cedar shakes, and presented three bids: Smith Roofing (~$56,300 with full tear-off), Reland Suns (~$38,456 over existing roof) and Midwest Roofing (~$23,660 for roof alone; updated combined roof and siding bid presented later). Staff recommended Midwest’s combined roof-and-siding proposal because of economies of scale and the availability of $75,000 in CARES Act funds allocated to the airport. The selected work would make the barn weathertight and potentially available for leasing at market rates.
Council approved the proposal and authorized completion in 2026.
