The council enacted a zoning map amendment on June 16 changing the zoning for parcels at 550 McMillan Street from institutional to multifamily residential (MRM30), which staff said would allow a future application for four multifamily buildings of 24 units each.
Director of Neighborhood and Building Services Drager summarized prior steps: a public hearing on April 28, a neighborhood meeting for the applicant on May 6, and a plan commission recommendation for approval on May 12. A traffic study requested by staff concluded that the maximum development allowed under the proposed zoning could be handled by existing infrastructure, Drager said. The city manager and staff noted there is no direct fiscal impact from the zoning change, although future development would increase tax base.
Council members noted neighborhood concerns had been raised in earlier hearings but said outstanding issues had been addressed to the plan commission’s satisfaction. Council enacted the ordinance on its third reading.
