Committee unanimously approves three secondhand-dealer renewals

The committee then approved renewal applications for Costas Fine Jewelry and Coins (motion by Alderperson Helvinsleben, seconded by Alderperson Van Trieste) and for Watch Circle LLC (motion by Alderperson Helvinsleben, seconded by Alderperson Van Trieste); both motions passed unanimously.
Why it matters: secondhand-dealer licenses regulate the resale of used goods and provide consumer-protection oversight. Renewals are typically routine but provide the council and public a regular check on local businesses that buy and resell secondhand items.
Committee members asked a staffer to follow up with an applicant who had not been given the same opportunity to speak earlier in the meeting. Near adjournment, the clerk asked members to provide feedback directly to staff member Bridal Running on a proposed ordinance that would change the city attorney from an elected to an appointed position; members were asked not to provide that feedback to the committee as a whole.
