Officials discussed a patrol car involved in a collision and the town's vehicle rotation during the meeting.
The chief described the injured officer's condition and the insurance process: "He uh he's sore. I think he's got some whiplash, some bruised ribs, things like that. Um, he's currently off. We're working with IPE to get him to like Ortho Indie to get him whatever he needs to get to get uh back to duty and uh his car is up at Carners, so we'll have to wait for their adjuster and our adjuster to go over and look at it." He said the insurance adjusters will determine payment, after which the town will decommission the damaged vehicle and calculate replacement costs.
On fleet readiness, the chief said the department has a spare K9 car and two pool cars in older condition that can be used if needed. He noted two vehicles are scheduled for replacement in next year's five-year rotation and said he will request replacements during the budget cycle to stay ahead of needs. Equipment needs for incoming officers were limited to uniforms and vests, the chief said.
The meeting did not record a formal vote on fleet purchases or insurance settlements; the town is awaiting adjuster reports and insurance negotiations before decisions on decommissioning or replacement are finalized.
