Somerton Elementary District board adopts proposed FY26–27 budget

Somerton Elementary District (4500) approved its proposed FY26–27 budget after a presentation by district staff and a voice vote by the board.

District staff presented the proposal, saying the district would capture a 2% increase to its base support level. The presenter said the district’s M allocation is currently estimated at $23.8 million and that carryover for the yearend close is estimated at about $1.3 million (figures described as estimates subject to final close). The staff presentation noted the governor had not approved the proposed state budget and that the auditor general allowed the district to capture the 2% increase on the new forms for this year.

The presenter also reviewed capital and tax figures, stating an approximate GAA allocation of $1.5 million, an estimated capital carryover plus interest of about $1.9 million, and a district primary assessed valuation of about $139 million. The presenter said the district’s primary tax rate dropped from about $1.71 to about $1.57 per $100 assessed valuation, in part because an adjacent-ways levy fell off. The presenter emphasized that some numbers (including one-time funding and final ADM figures) remained uncertain until state actions and year‑end accounting are complete.

Christina Clark moved to adopt the proposed FY26–27 budget; Miss Gado made the motion on the record. Glattis Anaya seconded. The board recorded the voice vote in favor and the motion carried.

The board scheduled a regular meeting for Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. to approve the proposed budget; staff noted revisions will be made once final ADM and state figures are available.
