During the March 10 Somerton Elementary District board meeting, Superintendent Duron and district staff updated trustees on upcoming trips, engagement events and safety preparations.
Duron said he approved the district folkloric/mariachi group's trip to a Tucson conference scheduled April 28–May 1 and approved select BTS classroom field trips to SeaWorld on May 12. He reminded the board of 'Coffee with the Superintendent' on March 19 hosted by TDS and said plans for a board retreat on June 6 are underway.
District staff reported work on an open‑enrollment and new‑enrollment marketing campaign for spring, urged early kindergarten registration, and recapped recent events including a wrestling meet and health and safety program. Staff also described a reunification practice at one elementary school that reunited approximately 140 students in about 45 minutes; the drill included advance parent communications, staff roleplay and coordination with city public safety partners.
Board members thanked staff and community partners for supporting events and safety efforts and noted upcoming community activities like the Greater Days parade and the Teacher of the Year banquet on April 30.
