District schedules reunification drill, rolls out Rave notification app; ribbon cutting set for new stage

Somerton Elementary District safety staff told the governing board on Feb. 10 that the district completed a staff reunification training on Feb. 6 and will conduct a planned reunification exercise at Bravy Totto Elementary on Feb. 27.

The presenter (introduced earlier as Alysia Garcia) said the Feb. 6 training included city law enforcement and district safety personnel, involved role practice and debriefing, and produced adjustments the district will implement before the Feb. 27 exercise. "We just conducted our staff training and...we're planning our first goal to do the reunification on February 27th," the presenter said.

Staff also described a phased rollout of the Rave notification system (a mobile app) that the county is using, including geo-mapping of school sites so messages are tied to the staff assigned to a particular location. The presenter said administrators have been trained and that the district will train remaining staff over the semester and confirm that phone numbers and contact information are up to date for reliable alerts.

In the superintendent’s update, Mr. Duron said the district will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony Feb. 25 to celebrate a donated stage constructed by Red Construction; formal invitations will be sent to board members. The board did not take formal action on safety items but scheduled follow-up training and community communications.

Next steps: district staff will finalize training schedules, confirm Rave contact data, and run the Bravy Totto reunification exercise on Feb. 27 as described to the board.
