Superintendent highlights robotics teams, school banners and community events at Somerton board meeting

Mr. Don said SVS placed first and TDS placed second at the county level and that both teams will compete at the state competition the coming Saturday. He also said the district will distribute banners and hold celebrations for schools that met the district’s letter-grade targets.
Board members added their own appreciations of extracurricular programs. Several members praised the marching band and folkloric troupe for participating in the Somerton Tamale Festival and a local light parade; they noted Governor Hobbs visited the festival and met district representatives, and that district leaders had conversations about grant funding and education priorities with state officials.
The superintendent proposed holding a full-day board retreat toward the end of the semester to align district work and board goals; board members discussed scheduling constraints and agreed to revisit specific dates in April.
