The Somerton Elementary District board voted on Dec. 9 to approve revisions to policy GCMCA, establishing rules for recording meetings and specifying conditions intended to protect confidential information and student safety.
Administration said the policy was developed with ASBA and legal counsel and would require a 24-hour notice for recording requests and discourage video recording in certain circumstances for safety reasons. "We worked with ASBA and the attorneys to ensure that everything is correct and conditions for recording," an administrator said during the presentation.
The motion to approve was made, seconded and then recorded by roll call: Juan Castillo voted yes, Lorena Deado voted yes, Christina Clark voted yes and Lisa Areola voted nay; the motion carried.
Administrators said that, if approved, the policy could be implemented promptly and shared with parents and meeting participants.
