Parents and staff seek clarity on new dean of students role at Village Elementary

Several parents, teachers and staff used the public comment period to press the board for clarification about a proposed Dean of Students job description for Village Elementary.
Jennifer Landry told the board the three-page draft is "a very hefty job description for one person to take on" and said the district had not posted the principal and assistant principal job descriptions for Village Elementary on its website, preventing community comparison. Landry said the descriptions language on "essential instructional leadership" and reference to "coach" raised concerns about whether the role would have evaluative authority over teachers.
Britney Lindquist, who identified herself as both a teacher at CUSD and a parent, said she supports the creation of the Dean role but urged the board and district leadership to "clearly communicate the measures of success when we're looking at this position" and to use both empirical metrics and "street data," the lived experiences of students, staff and families, to judge impact.
Sarah Hunsaker, speaking as staff, thanked the board for the additional investment and asked that an evaluative component be removed, saying that would create leadership opportunities without placing the new hire in an evaluative position. She also requested staff involvement in the hiring and development process.
Trustees thanked the speakers and said the district will continue to work on clarifying metrics and staffing implications. No formal board action on the job description was recorded in the meeting minutes; public commenters asked for clarifications prior to the first day of school.
