Plainview ISD board tables principal appointment, calls brief executive session

The Plainview ISD Board of Trustees tabled consideration of appointing a principal, Dr. HD Sanchez, and announced plans to schedule an additional interview and possibly a short special meeting to name a principal before the start of classes if needed.

During discussion, a trustee explained the board had interviewed a range of candidates and that one candidate with "a very impressive resume" had submitted materials late; administration asked to table the current agenda item to allow that interview to proceed. The board noted state meeting rules that limit special meetings to times outside the school day and discussed possible early‑morning or evening meeting windows for a vote.

After routine business concluded, the board chair requested a brief executive session "board consultation with attorney" under Government Code section 551; the public meeting was recessed and attendees dismissed at approximately 6:30 p.m. for the closed session.

Next steps: administration will schedule the additional candidate interview and, if appropriate, a short special meeting in early July to consider formally naming a principal. The board will report back publicly after any such meeting.
