Pleasantville schools cap year with graduations, awards and strong spring sports seasons

A district presenter celebrated end-of-year events across Pleasantville schools, thanking volunteers and highlighting student accomplishments from pre-kindergarten through high school.

"Today, I was lucky enough to see our four-year-olds graduate from pre-kindergarten," the presenter said, noting that the lab school and FAST program graduation is scheduled for tomorrow and that high school seniors graduate on Thursday. The presenter listed additional ceremonies at BRS and the middle school and described pairing activities such as kindergarteners hosting their fifth-grade buddies.

The presenter also noted recognition in the arts: after the district received a notable number of Metro nominations, the ensemble performed at the awards ceremony and individuals Ed Mancini and Clayton Huling won honors for graphic design and supporting actor. On athletics, the presenter summarized spring results: boys varsity tennis finished 10-6 and were league champions; varsity track and field were league runners-up for both boys and girls; varsity baseball finished 18-8 and were Section 1 finalists; boys varsity lacrosse went 13-6 and were league champions and Section 1 finalists; girls varsity lacrosse went 17-4 and achieved the program's best season, winning league, Section 1 and regional titles and reaching the New York state semifinals.

Looking ahead, the presenter reminded the public that the special education extended school year program runs through July and August, many teachers will work on curriculum development, and an administrative retreat is scheduled for the first two days of July. The district also plans to begin its next strategic plan over the summer by developing stakeholder questions and initial surveys to gather community input.

The presenter concluded by thanking volunteers and staff whose efforts supported students throughout the year.
