Pleasantville board outlines three‑phase capital project, says SED approvals will pace work

The Pleasantville Union Free School District presented a three‑phase schedule for its capital improvements and said state approval and construction timing mean athletic seasons will be affected.
District officials described Phase 1 as the expedited items from Proposition One, scheduled to begin in summer 2027 pending review and approval by the New York State Education Department. Phase 2 includes all athletic‑field work and is slated for spring and summer 2028; administrators said that will require the district’s spring 2028 lacrosse and track seasons to play away from home. Phase 3 covers interior instructional space upgrades across all three schools and Bedford Road School security and playground work in summer 2028.
The presentation emphasized the pacing constraints imposed by SED review, architectural design and the need to do most construction while school is not in session. A spokesperson summarized the district’s approach as balancing speed with minimizing disruption: "With the need for SED approval, architectural work, specific designs, and purchasing... our plan gives us the fastest possible timeline," the presenter said.
District leaders also said they will refresh the community facilities committee and solicit volunteers to serve on subcommittees. Communication with stakeholders will continue throughout the project timeline, they added.
The board did not take final action on project contracts at the meeting. Administrators said they will return with further details as SED approvals and designs advance.
